As many of you know, I have been fighting a problem that my doctors cannot diagnose; they sent me home after every test known to man or woman. At the beginning I was walking about six miles a day; at the end of the hospital stay, I was walking with assistance walker, now a cane. The weakness holds to me like a leach. After a hospital stay, I have been undergoing therapy at home; I am no better today than my first day home.
This weakness is interfering in my life! Therapy takes up most of my days; no less than four hours a day, with little progress. I take care of the needs of my new puppy and myself, there is no energy for anything else. Simple household chores can be monumental; as are the self care needs. The challenge that I face daily is the need to work on my writing and painting projects. That time is limited the reason, no energy which brings me to what I plan to discuss in this post, women and depression. The Covid affects older adults, twice as many women over men experience depression. Nonetheless, geriatric depression added onto medical conditions and certain disabilities can be life threatening. Depression can be misdiagnosis, as it mimics normal age related issues.
Depression in the older adults can reduce their quality of life, and it increases risk of suicide. There is no single cause of depression in any age group. Some research indicates that there could be a genetic link to the disease. However, biological, social, and psychological factors all play a role in depression in older adults.
If you’re experiencing depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts, it’s important to get help. With the right interventions, depression is treatable, and suicide is preventable. Learn to recognize the symptoms’ of depression; if you have an elderly relative talk to them about the possibility of being depressed.
I myself suffer from depression, I have always felt that creative people are all depressed in some way; it derives from our need to create, artist, writers. My symptoms were lack of interest, unable to sleep, feelings of hopelessness, a strange sadness; feelings of no quality of life.
I share t his with you as there may be others of all ages that are living under a dark cloud of depression. Try to understand your feelings and discuss it with your physician, and always remember that you are not alone.
Below is a piece that I have written/created during these dark days, it helps to continue to create. I am fine; each day brings renewed hope for a long and bright future.
Watching the body lose its shape, the eyes no longer sparkle, now small orbs in a wrinkled face. Strength disappears, limbs grow stiff, and every function less accurate and every fiber of being frail and overwrought with life. Life is not what in our youth we dreamed it would be! The aging was not to be mellow and soft as the sunsets glow, these golden day’s decline with a hurried speed. To see the world from a pinnacle with creative eyes, a heart deeply moved. Yet we mourn to feel and see the past, the years that are gone forever. Being old is to spend long days not once believing that we were ever young. Confined in the cold prison of living day to day with weary pain. It is to suffer, being only half of what we use to be; feeble are many who are hidden away. Remembrance gone, no emotion, no life. This is the last stage of life, frozen within ourselves, soon to be an empty ghost; whom do we blame? We blame no one, no regrets, being old is a privilege.
I woke with the need to leave the last post of 2020; it has been a cruel year.
I wanted to start this year, with my need to return to exercising, I have not done more than a few steps whether the weather was good or bad, at present in Wisconsin we have had a new snow fall. So, I spent thirty-minutes on the treadmill. A small amount of time, however, for someone who has not been exercising that is quite a bit. In the building where I live they have a small fitness room. No, tiny, a treadmill and two exercise bikes fill the space. I remember when I came here eight years ago, a healthier me, I went to a gym and there was no need to utilize the space. This past year the “manager”, place signage on certain areas. One day I past the room and there on the door was a sign “FITNESS CENTER’”, I open the door, nope there was not another door leading to bigger and better equipment, just the tiny room. A source of humor for everyone, I believe that I may be the only one who uses the equipment. That was where my thoughts returned at 7:30 AM when I opened a book b Anne LaMotte and begin to walk. Age tried to kill this body in 2020, and being shut in for nine months would have killed the mind; but there was enough to write about to keep me going. I begin a battering of tests due to health matters; this can make for a difficult time mentally and physically.
It was a year of lies and controversy.
The possibility of a biblical apocalypse came upon us when “Locust” hit Africa. I expected it in the US but I guess it was not our time. Somewhere among several countries, fires were determined to destroy great masses of land. President Donald Trump was impeached! Covid-19 hit the US, and toilet paper begins to either be removed by stores or customers were hoarding. I do not know where the rumor that Covid gave one diarrhea, but a panic cleaned the store shelves of all paper products. I believe they were fighting over it in Wal-Mart. Let’s not forget the talk of “Demon Sperm”! Next, disinfectant, wipes, sanitizer could not be found, again hoarding. President Trump wanted to ban Tic Toc, but his life was spent on Twitter. If it could happen it did.
I am ready for 2020 to end; I fought health issues and survived a couple of serious surgeries. I am on the mend, I hope, and looking forward to 2021. I lost my four-legged companion, Mason; the hole in my heart will never fully mend. Yet, I have hopes for the future. I have a new pup coming into my life in January 2021; she will not take the place of my darling Mason. I hope she and I will become good friends, and I hope the love will grow. I want to finish a book I have started (second year), become healthy and enjoy my family and the country that I live in; I want to see Covid as a dim thought.
Have a great New Years Eve…be safe and my you all go into the new years with hope.

Existence, scene after scene, characteristic of life environment, genetics and promises that reveal nothing, the past descends like rain from the sky, washing away all dreams. Phantoms of youth chanting within the soul, paths blocked; evil has spread across the landscape of a lifetime. Loneliness limits love and happiness; boundaries set slow down the process of moving into the future…nevertheless, the future may be shrouded with abundant solitude from where there is no escape. Rethink the future!

Donald Trump said that he is devising a plan to get the “Black” Vote, so now he want to “romance” the Black’s in America.Donald Trump comes under the statement “Sheep in Wolfs clothing”.
Trump has been sued for violating the Fair Housing Act, evidence was found that Trump refused to rent to Black tenants. Itis said that when he came to his casino’s Black people had to get off the floor. He has been known to say that Blacks have a trait to be lazy. Trump falsely accused Obama as not being a citizen. Trump has suggested that Senator Kamala Harris, “doesn’t meet the requirements” to run for vice president. He has stated that, Blacks are “Living in poverty, schools are no good”. What have you done to correct this Mr. Trump?
Trump attacked NFL players for kneeling silently protesting the national anthem. He has stated that African countries are “shitholes”. He has stated that Black and Brown members of Congress should “Go back”. Donald Trump said that he had a plan to win over Black Americans. Then, he opens his mouth again saying, “That Blacks only care about power for themselves, his speeches are different for different audiences. He defended Confederate symbols, calling Black Lives Matter a symbol of hate. He consistently delivered a law and order message, calling demonstrators “thugs” and “anarchists” and “mob rule.”
They are those that say Trump is just a bad speaker and possibly racially insensitive. But when one pulls all of what he said and what he did together, he is a racist. He has put a dark cloud over our Nation, and has insulted most of our allies. If, and after, he is elected he will return as the same vile individual that he has been for 30-years. He makes me ashamed to be white! As we live in our white skin we must work hard to make this country equal for everyone; we need to heal, and we cannot nor will we be able to with the reelection of Donald Trump.
